Carpet Cleaning: The Essence of Cleaning a Bulky Material
The carpet is one of the most common materials one may see in any household. This is because carpets are very elegant and they hold in themselves a sort of magic from antiquity, back to the times when Arab traders wove the fabric and sold them in their trading journey across lands and rivers. The carpet brought with them the enigma and the culture of their native land, enticing people to buy on the priced item. Despite its being a common household commodity, no one who has ever tried carpet cleaning can blithely say that the process is easy and enjoyable. It is because cleaning the material is a very tedious task that should involve one’s ingenuity and the presence of the proper cleaning materials to make the task somewhat easier.
Nonetheless, it is a reality that every household member has to contend: the need to clean carpets. This is done to make the material smooth and shiny again and as elegant as if they were new. However, given the bulky weaving of carpets, most frown upon the idea of carpet cleaning. Today, there might be no more frowning as carpet cleaning has now become more modern. However, for households, it will be best to be familiar with the less technical method suitable for carpet cleaning at the household level.
Common Carpet Cleaning Methods
The following are the most common methods employed in carpet cleaning:
- Use of rattan and other materials for carpet beating. This is perhaps one of the oldest means devised and the easiest carpet cleaning process. All that is needed is a stick or anything to beat the carpet to shake off dust and soil particles clinging to it. Although this process may not help restore the carpet to its original state, it nonetheless frees the carpet from dust, dog and cat hairs, and other dirt. However, when using this, one must be careful not to beat the carpet too hard lest the process will cause wear on the material.
- Vacuum cleaning. This is a safer process of carpet cleaning. In this process, an air pump sucks out the dust particles that may be clinging to the carpet. This process is also more thorough than carpet beating because it vacuums even the tiniest particles that the former cannot shake off.
- Dry cleaning. This process makes use of special detergents and machines that melt the stain and dust on the rug and melting them in a way that makes them easy to remove. This is also the latest means of carpet cleaning, although at present, they are available only in the industry level, the process and machines being far too expensive for common households.
- Steam cleaning. This is a method of carpet cleaning that uses steam of water ejected at high pressure. As a result, the stain and dust on the carpet is easily washed away. With the application of detergents, the process is made even more efficient. Afterwards, shampoo may be applied on the carpet to make the carpet softer and to help restore its natural elegance and beauty.
